Experimental composer and iconoclastic upright player Arnold Dreyblatt plays Ceremony Hall in Autin, TX this Saturday with Austin art ensemble, The Orchestra of Excited Strings. The show is sponsered by the Austin New Music Coop.
Dreyblatt strings his upright with piano wire uses a unique tuning based on the harmonic series to create an striking array of harmonics. A second generation minimalist of the New York school, his compositions are surprisingly accessible and satisfying (as opposed to the pretentious and bloodlessly academic horseshit that passes for minimalism nowadays).
