Pavement’s Mark Ibold to appear on Sonic Youth album

Former Pavement member Mark Ibold has been playing with Sonic Youth since the “Rather Ripped” tour, and he’s set to appear on their upcoming album, in a song with the working title “That’s What We Know.” The sixteenth SA album is being produced by John Agnello, who also produced Rather Ripped.

Pavement debuted in 1989, and continued playing through the 1990s, with limited success. However, after their break-up, they developed something of a cult following. Rumors have been going around that Ibold and former frontman Stephen Malkmus (the Jicks) have been talking about a reunion.

In an interview at Great Jones Cafe in New York, where Ibold mixes drinks between gigs, he told SPIN that their agent has been suggesting a reunion tour “sometime in the next couple of years.”

But, he said, “it’s definitely not official.” We’ll keep our ears open and let you know.
