Rhonda Smith performs at Fender’s 2009 Kickoff Event
Singer, songwriter and bassist Rhonda Smith is best known as bass player for Prince, but has also played with Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Lee Ritenour, George Clinton and others. In 1995 she won the Juno (Canada’s version of the Grammy) for best contemporary jazz album for her work with Jim Hillman and the Merlin Factor. Her debut solo album Intellipop was released in 2000, followed in 2006 by RS2.
She’s featured with her own band, Karma Deuce, in this video from Fender’s 2009 Kickoff Event in Anaheim. She’s playing Jaco Pastorius‘ “Portrait of Tracy.” Fender doesn’t allow video sharing, but you can click over to watch.
