Mingus Awareness at The Hideout

Charles Mingus’ legacy in the world of jazz music will be celebrated on May 7th at The Hideout in Chicago. Mingus was a victim of ALS, and all the benefits of this celebration will go to the Les Turner ALS Foundation. ALS is better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Tickets are $12 or $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or at Ticketweb.com.

The concert will include two sets:

1st set, Justin Dillard?solo piano

2nd set, MAPtet performing the music of Charles Mingus, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Eric Dolphy: Alex Wing on upright bass, Rich Corpolongo on alto saxophone, Saalik Ziyad on vocals, Paul Hartsaw on tenor saxophone, Nick Moran—baritone on saxophone and bass clarinet, Dan Godston on trumpet, Norman Palm on trombone, Jon Godston on soprano saxophone and Jerry Coleman on drums.
