Sly & The Family Stone: The Woodstock Experience

sly-and-the-family-stone-woodstock-expSony/Legacy continues to release incredible 2-disc sets in celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, including the 50-minute performance by Sly and the Family Stone on August 16, 1969.

To us, bassist Larry Graham was the anchor of this incredible performance and band, and he set the stage for a whole new generation of bassists to follow.

The 2-disc set includes 17 songs. Nine are from the Woodstock peformance, and the other eight from the arguably the band’s best album, Stand, also released 40 years ago.

Not only is this the first time the entire Woodstock performance is available on CD, it is surprisingly also the first live CD for the band to be released.

Given the reputation of Sly and the band of missing gigs, we’re glad they made it for this one.
