Mike Gordon: Get Bassed Tour
Phish bassist Mike Gordon will begin a 10-show solo tour, the “Get Bassed Tour,” along the east coast this week to promote his latest solo CD, The Green Sparrow.
After the solo tour, he’ll be preparing for the Phish festival in late October at the Coachella site in California.
In a recent Boston Herald interview, Gordon was asked about his role as a band leader: “There is more responsibility, but I’m not very bosslike. I like to encourage everyone’s opinions while arranging the songs and asking everyone to bring their own material. With Phish it was, or rather is, so much about musical communication and interplay that moving into an experience when everyone’s voice is stifled except the boss seems like it’s going to be a lame experience. I really want this to be a band, so I want to have a band name and not use my own name. I have a long list going.”
