NAMM announces School Jam USA

School Jam USA

This year, there will be the ultimate battle-of-the-bands: School Jam USA 2009.

School Jam USA is sponsored by NAMM, the not-for-profit association of the international music products industry, and its promotional partners MENC: the National Association for Music Education, Music For All, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and InTune Monthly magazine.

Anyone with a band ages 13-18 can enter. The only stipulations are that your band has never been signed to a major label and you do all original (or public domain) material, and all members must also be registered at a high school in the USA. The application period is open through October 15th.

The competition will narrow down to 10 finalists, each of whom will receive prize money to purchase new gear. The schools they represent will also be awarded money for their music programs. Additionally, the winning band will travel to Europe next March to perform at the 2010 School Jam Germany finals in Frankfurt.

The bands win a pre-paid Visa gift card, the schools get a gift card to their choice of NAMM member retailer.
