Guy Pratt: Great Disco Bass Lines

Today’s video features well-known session bassist Guy Pratt demonstrating some of the great disco bass lines, and talking about the origin of his 1964 Fender Jazz bass, known as “Betsy”.

The Bee Gees bit is hilarious. This one is worth watching twice.

Ah yes. The great Bass Lines of the Bee Gees. Truely, they were pioneers.

Actually, this would have been a 1960 Jazz…the stacked knob was only available during the first half of ’60..then went to 3 controls thereafter.
The stacked knob was resurrected for one year…the 1962 model….This could be a ’62, but Guy said his was one of the first made, so I’d say within the first 6 months of ’60.

LMFAO One of my professors is Matt Bonelli the bass player from the Bee Gees.

    Bee Gees…that was funny.

  4. But they did write some of the best disco hits.

  5. Funny…but…. who had the most hits records?

All of Guy’s basses are called Betsy to add to the confusion but this is not his 1964 Jazz. His 1964 Jazz Betsy is in Burgundy Mist and has Emg j set.

  7. WOW. He got that from Gilmour? Awesome! Excellent player worthy of an axe from THE God of the ‘other’ instrument with strings. Tee hee.
