Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys Gives Back With Claddagh Fund

Ken CaseyKen Casey of the Dropkick Murphys has created a nonprofit organization called the Claddagh Fund, to help raise money for organizations helping needy children, veterans and their families, and alcohol and substance abuse recovery.

Though it was only recently started, the fund has already raised nearly $200,000 with three events including a family skating session at Fenway Park. One of the upcoming events is the sixth annual Chickenman Memorial Golf Tournament on May 22nd in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Though giving to charity is nothing new to the Dropkick Murphys, Casey says that the Claddagh Fund gives fans a clear idea of where their donations go. Currently, all of the events are based around New England, but he is working on a way to spark the movement across the country. His plan is to start a forum for local organizations to spring up in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., all under the Claddagh Fund umbrella.

The Dropkick Murphys are currently gearing up for a summer tour in support of their March 2010 release, Live on Landsdowne, Boston MA. Visit the Claddagh Fund online.
