Gear Watch: Better Audio Technologies at Summer NAMM 2010

Better Audio Technologies SMB-SeriesDuring our Summer NAMM adventure, we stopped in at the Better Audio Technologies booth to check out their new custom SMB-series of bass cabinets.

The cabinets, which are available in a variety of finishes, utilize innovative 6″ long-throw woofers that give a –3dB cutoff frequency of 37Hz for great low-end extension. That’s lower than many manufacturers’ bass cabs, which generally are between 48 to 51Hz.

Bart from Better Audio explained to us that speaker size doesn’t necessarily equal power, and that these 6″ woofers can displace more air than a traditional 10″ MI woofer. What’s more, the cabs are more portable and weigh less, which is always nice when you’re loading in and out for a gig.

Better Audio’s bass cabs can be created in many different driver configurations, including horns, tweeters, and magnetostatic mid/tweets to give you all the flexibility you want. For more info, visit the Better Audio Technologies website.
