Ain’t No Mountain High Enough: James Jamerson’s Isolated Bass
If it’s James Jamerson on bass, you don’t need anything else. This isolated track of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” proves it.

one of the greatest bass players of all time!
Obviously the king of the genre, but it’s interesting to hear it isolated and how rushed some of his lines were
You say ‘rushed’ I say ‘forward momentum’. It’s probably a fine line but considering the success of his playing it’s difficult to criticise.
However, he was extremely drunk at the time! :)
You can tell, he was at the Top of his Game when he played this! Awesome! Yet, another Great Bass player that left us way to soon!!! Long Live the Hook!!!!
Thanks for this audio of James. Tremendous and so fat. No one like James. Strong.
All in one take, drunk as a skunk, his crazy ways – this guy very much influenced not just bass players but musicians all over the world. I visited the Motown museum in Detroit & lay where he played on ‘what’s goin on’. The guy was (& still is) a genius.
Amazing ,hooked so well into the vocal and yet so very strong on his own.
I think it’s Pistol Allen drumming on this. I’m not 100% but I think I remember that from Standing in the Shadows of Motown.
Play a better line then call him drunk…..genius would be a better word.
Totally mystifying.
So damn good.
Here’s what’s interesting: Ignoring the slight bleed coming from the headphones, you can totally tell what section of the song it is throughout. Maybe I’ve mentioned this before but it’s just so bitchin’. What a titan.
And that’s how it’s done. Right on James.
I’m feelin’ it!
Thanks for this one…
