Taken from a VHS tape released in 1999, here’s Flea with River Phoenix, discussing the techniques and influences behind the bassist’s unique style. Funk, punk, rock, super fast slap (and slower versions)… it is all here.
Great playing by Flea, but sort of seems a bit “wasted”.
Also, weird seeing River Phoenix in a vid from 1999. Must have been recorded around the time of BloodSugarSexMagic.
@Kris, yeah, it is strange about the 1999 date. We looked all over for this video, but is has been long since OOP. The only release date we were able to find was 1999, but it had to have been recorded way before that obviously.
Oh, and I meant Flea seems “wasted”. His playing is just fine!
Wish the video quality was better. River’s hair looks like it did in the Thing Called Love.
