Leighton AllenMeet Leighton Allen, a bassist from the UK and our player in the spotlight for January 5, 2011.

Bio:

I’m a bass player from the south of England, currently writing/playing with Steve Byrd 80’s session musician and ex-guitarist with Kim Wilde and Ian Gillian, amongst many many others. I have played many of the UK top venues and festivals with many different artists and bands. I’m currently studying online with Justin Raines but have also had lessons with Damian Erskine, Janek Gwizdala and Michael Manring.

I currently play with 5 bands/artists ranging from jazz to folk, playing venues all over the UK.

Why I play the bass:

My step father is a bass player so it was through him that I first got into playing, but then bands such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Incubus really got my attention and made me want to practise and take my playing to the next level.

My influences

My main Bass influences include Me’shell Ndegeocello, Marcus Miller, Justin Raines, Victor Wooten and Pino Palladino.
