Hiromi Releases “Voice”, Featuring Anthony Jackson

Hiromi: VoicePianist/composer Hiromi Uehara has just released Voice, her latest solo album. Bassist Anthony Jackson, who performed on a couple of tunes on Hiromi’s first two albums, performs on the entire album (excluding “Haze”, the one solo piano track), along with drummer Simon Phillips.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of [Anthony Jackson’s] bass playing,” Hiromi said. “I’ve always liked playing with him, and I was very happy that we finally had the chance to make an entire album together.”

Phillips was recommended to the pianist by both Jackson and Stanley Clarke.

“The more music I wrote for this album, the more clearly I heard the sound of Simon on drums,” says Hiromi. “When I told Anthony and Stanley that I was thinking of Simon to play drums for this project, they both encouraged me to ask him, so I did, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. From the first note of the first rehearsal, I was very excited about where we could go with this recording.”
