Top 10: Bass of the Week, Blast Cult Rises, Mod Shop, Snowboard Bass, Plus the Top Bass Gear and Videos

Bass, bass and more bass! Last week, we saw it all in the world of gear from the crazy snowboard bass to Blast Cult’s new line of basses – including one unique Miles Mosley model, complete with chalkboard paint. Plus, our bass of the week, the stunning Xylem 5-String Black Limba.

No Treble readers enjoyed some of our favorite videos of the week – especially Steve Metcalf’s upright bass arrangement of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Can’t Stop”, and a thumbtastic video with Tony Levin performing with King Crimson in the 80’s. By the way, be on the lookout for our interview with Tony in about a week (and check out this photo of Tony rocking his No Treble t-shirt during a live performance on Saturday night.)

Two of our popular columns ranked once again, with Damian Erskine’s Guide for the Self-Taught Bassist and Rob Doane’s latest Mod Shop each making the top ten.

Here are the top 10 features on No Treble for the week of September 18 – 24, 2011.

Signal Snowboards’ Duff McKagan Fender Snowboard Bass

1. Signal Snowboards’ Duff McKagan Fender Snowboard Bass

Some people play bass, and some people ride it. Signal Snowboards is a company that makes handmade boards, and on every third Thursday they get a little adventurous. In their latest edition, they hook up with bassist Duff McKagan and build a snowboard out of his signature Fender bass. The kicker? It’s still playable.

9. Beyond the Metronome: A Look at Metronomics and Time Guru for iOS

I was planning on writing this article on Metronomics, an app developed by John Nastos offering quite a few new features that go beyond your basic metronome app. However, I was recently tried out “Time Guru” by Avi Bortnick (John Scofield’s sample guru and rhythm guitarist) which does many of the same things – and…
