Lakland Reintroduces Darryl Jones Signature Bass

Lakland has reintroduced the Darryl Jones Signature bass in both US and Skyline models. Jones, who originally commissioned a bass in 1985, has played with the Rolling Stones, Miles Davis, Sting, and many more.

While the bass’s body shape is similar to the company’s Vintage J 44-60 and 55-60 models, the new signature model offers more curve to its contouring and cutaways that Lakland says adds vintage styling. In the same vein, they added a retro pickguard, block inlays in the fingerboard, and neck binding.

The bass is passive and feature a pair of the company’s vintage wound single coil pickups controlled with knobs configured Volume/Volume/Tone. The US model features an alder or swamp ash body with a quarter-sawn rock maple neck reinforced with graphite bars. Fingerboard options include East Indian rosewood or birdseye maple.

Available in 4- and 5-string variations, the Skyline models feature the same dimensions as the US model but differ in the materials used. The bodies are built of swamp ash while the necks are flat-sawn maple, and only the 5-string version has graphite reinforcement bars. The fingerboards are rosewood or maple, and Hipshot licensed hardware is used.

The Lakland Darryl Jones models are available now with MSRPs of $4,900 for the US model while the Skyline 4 and 5-stringers have suggested retail prices of $1,699 and $1,799, respectively. For more info, visit Lakland’s website.
