Ruokangas Guitars Introduce Fretless Steambass

Ruokangas Guitars Steambass Fretless BassFinnish custom shop Ruokangas Guitars is now offering fretless versions of their vintage-inspired Steambass, which they introduced last year. The company included stylish fret markers on the ebony fretboard that don’t cross the whole board but instead correspond in placement to the position of the neck – the lower register has markers under the E-string, while the 12th “fret” and above is marked under the G-string.

The Steambass comes in Classic and Deluxe version, with the difference being in the body wood as the Classic is made of Ash and the Deluxe is made of Spanish Cedar body with an Arctic Birch top. Both models feature a bolt-on thermo treated maple neck, a Wilkinson WB2P bridge, Gotoh GB11 tuners, and Ruokangas’s Steambass Custom Jazz pickups. Since each bass is built by hand and to order, other options such as choice of colors, pickguards, neck profiles, and more are available.

  1. Ok, I see a pattern forming here…Nice Bass, except the price.. GET REAL! Most jobbing bass players simply cannot afford these kind of prices unless they are in a pro band playing every night commanding major fees.
Simple soloution… get your prices down, then you’ll get more sales.

  2. This is pretty much just a standard jazz bass, built a lot better probably but still… price tag is the same as the Jaco signature model (in europe that is), so I guess it’s not too bad but… would never buy “just a jazz bass” for anything like this price..

  3. After seeing the price, I scrolled down the specs & expected something to jump out at me…nothing did.

  4. umm…that’s a jazz bass alright…
