Brubaker Introduces Brute MJXSC Single Cut 5-String Bass

Brubaker is expanding their Brute Bass series this year with the addition of the MJXSC line of basses. The new 5-string models sport a single-cut body design while keeping a low price point.

Weighing in a 10 pounds, the MJXSC sports an ash body and a bolt-on maple neck with a slim taper contour. The rosewood fingerboard has a compound radius of 16? at the nut and 20? at the last 22nd fret.

The pickup configuration is MM/J, with the company’s 3200 Series dual coil humbucker in the bridge position and the 3200 Series single coil in the neck position. Brubaker then couples the pickups with their 5200 Series active 2-band EQ, with resulting controls including Volume, Blend, Treble Boost/Cut, and Bass Boost/Cut.

  1. I’ll be glad when this single cut phase passes. That design is just ugly. Of course..that’s just my opinion.

    • Not for you,, hey @[100000007362131:2048:Jack Pasquale]

    • agreed wholeheartedly. I have a inexpensive Gretsch Electromatic bass that I put through a NYC Tech 21 Bass Driver for my recordings and for my first adventure in playing bass guitar, I was genuinely very pleased with the results. I really like the Steinberger Bass, G&L, and Hofner (Of course).

  2. it probably has amazing tone with all that wood but I never really dug the single cut look.

  3. I didn’t like single cuts either…until I actually played one. I would love to have a Veillette single cut.

  4. I think single cuts are usually ugly, but these look good, particularly with the tobacco burst.

  5. Is Maple fretboard an available option along with Bartolini pick-ups, pre-amp?
