Bass of the Week: Hot Wire Bass Inlaw 521 BO

Hot Wire Bass Inlaw 521 BO Bass - full view

German bass company Hot Wire produced a super cool version of their Inlaw 521 BO model with a stunning quilted maple top and matching pickup covers. The “zebra” effect is attained by using a lighter quilted maple and a dark quilted maple to create a sharp contrast.

The Inlaw comes in several versions, but the 521 BO is a 5-string, 21-fret bass with bolt-on construction. Though options are available, the bass’s standard features include an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. This particular bass is stocked with Funderbird pickups and a John East U-Retro Four Knob preamp, and the hardware is by Hipshot.

The Hot Wire Inlaw 521 BO is built to order with different top woods available and has a base price of €1,998 (approx. $2,500 USD). For more info, visit the Hot Wire website.

  1. that looks really good. I especially like how they managed to cut the electronics coverplate from the body wood! great work. the only thing I am missing is an original headstock shape :P but I’m sure its gonne come sometime.

  2. Hey, it’s a cutting board!

  3. Hey Zsolt! It was a lot of work… actually our headstock is original… we came up with the design in 1999 when we built the first prototypes and we have been using them ever since.
