Spawn of Possession: Erlend Caspersen Plays Through “Bodiless Sleeper”

One of the things I really love about YouTube is that everyone uses it, so it’s easy to find awesome bassists doing their thing. Case in point: Norwegian death metal bassist Erlend Caspersen has an account that he’s filled up with play alongs of the songs he plays.

Here’s his play through for Spawn of Possession’s “Bodiless Sleeper,” where he utilizes some awesome techniques to pull off incredible runs. The tempo also happens to be next to warp speed.

Disclaimer: Death metal vocals ahead.

  1. Badass. I hope the disclaimer was purely tongue in cheek. I mean, you did introduce the guy as the bassist for a death metal band, after all. :-)

  2. awesome album artwork and great bass playing!

  3. I love Spawn Of Possession! I sometimes wonder how can one play such technical, fast and all over the place stuff effortlessly. I have tried and failed miserably, haha.

  4. following him for some time on youtube. every time I see him playing I want to cry because I will never be like him :'(.
great playing, now ill have to watch a few of his videos and I’m going to start crying, that your fault no treble (and Kevin Johnson )…

  5. Erlend is a brilliant bass player and an awesome guy.
Sadly he hasn’t played bass in a while now as he says he just doesn’t feel the desire to play anymore. Shame!
Certainly some of the best, and well written bass parts for music such as this, not to mention difficult!
