Miles Davis “Live in Europe 1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 2” Released
Miles Davis went through several musical styles through his career, and the late 60’s proved to be an era of drastic change. That’s documented in part in a new box set, Live In Europe 1969: The Bootleg Series Volume 2, which compiles performances by his band at the Antibes Jazz Festival in France, “The Newport Jazz Festival in Europe” in Stockholm, and at the Berlin Philharmonie.
The release is the first collection of Davis’s “Lost Quintet,” consisting of Davis, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, keyboardist Chick Corea, drummer Jack DeJohnette and bassist Dave Holland. The group’s moniker comes from the fact that they never recorded in the studio. Shortly after these concerts were recorded, Davis recorded and released the seminal album Bitches Brew.
The box set features three CDs – two sets from Antibes and one from Stockholm – and a DVD of the concert in Berlin. The set is available on CD/DVD and as a digital collection).
