  1. Now that’s affordable quality….. I’m in!

  2. I love Lakland basses, own a 4401 and I don’t think you can get a more versatile bass at that price but just wish they would do some less showy/pretentious finishes in their budget ranges. I’m in a low-fi indie rock band and it just doesn’t look the part so genrally end up playing my yamaha.

    • don’t matter what it LOOKS like, it is up to you to make it sound good by how well you play it ! If you worry about what you LOOK like, then maybe you should work on how good you sound rather than how cool you look. no point in looking the coolest guy in town if you suck at laying down the right sort of groove – folks ain’t gonna watch an asshat for too long. Put Clapton on the worst ax in the world, folks will still come to see him cos he sounds like Claoton, not cos he looks the dogs bollox !

    • If that were true then why aren’t all bass/guitar makers making completely functional instruments. Would we all want to buy a bass with a square headstock, body with just the cutaways to make it comfortable/functional? And why even bother about the colour/finish atall if we don’t care about the look?

Why do we aspire to that beauty, why has lakland made the design decision to introduce spalt finishes? It’s because they like the look, lots of people do like the look, hell I like the look but I was saying I also like the look of something like a nice simple solid red/blue bass. Given that option I would have to think long and hard to justifying having most of my other basses, I’m seriously considering a USA made as it is.

I am not a fashionable guy but when leaving the house I often make the choice to wear something other than a hessian sack with arm holes cut in it, some days I wear a suit(not often) somedays a t-shirt and jeans. That is an aesthetic choice I make depending on the situation and what is required.

If you agree or disagree I fail to see how my opinion about the look of something has anything to do with my ability to play.

  3. Where do I get one!

  4. Nobody’s Spalt but mine!
