Jimi Hendrix: Miami Pop Festival Recordings Released

Jimi Hendrix: Miami Pop FestivalForty five years ago, the Jimi Hendrix Experience headlined the first major rock festival on the East Coast. Now the band’s appearance has been released as Jimi Hendrix Experience: Miami Pop Festival, an album of previously unreleased material from the concert.

The album has eleven tracks: nine from their morning set with two from the afternoon set. Alongside the classics like “Fire,” “Hey Joe” and “Purple Haze,” Miami Pop features the first recorded stage performances of “Hear My Train A Comin” and “Tax Free.”

By the time of the festival, the band had been touring and recording for two years, and it shows. The band as a whole is in top form, and Noel Redding’s bass is just as heated as the guitar virtuoso’s on “Fire.” Redding also lays a fat blues foundation on the twelve minute rendition of “Red House.”

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Miami Pop Festival is available now in CD and digital formats (iTunes and Amazon MP3) as well as limited edition, numbered double 12″ audiophile vinyl set.
