Ozomatli Releases “Place in the Sun”

Ozomatli: Place in the SunOzomatli’s eighth album, Place in the Sun, sees the band returning to its beginnings, in a way, with engineer Robert Carranza (Eels, Jack Johnson, The Mars Volta) producing alongside the multi-genre Latin rock/global music/electro-cumbia/garage rock/jam band that has served U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors and even has its own day — Ozomatli Day — in Los Angeles each April 23rd.

Bassist Wil-Dog Abers recalls that Carranza produced the Grammy-winning band’s first demo. And he and the rest of the band have only the highest praise for their co-producer.

Themes of family, growth and acceptance of responsibility appear throughout Place in the Sun, and the early single, “Brighter” was inspired by the process of raising children. It features Dave Stewart, known for his work with The Eurythmics, who first met one of the band members when their children attended the same preschool. Check out “Brighter”:

Place in the Sun is out now on CD, vinyl and digital formats (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
