Ashdown Engineering unveiled a new range of amplifiers in their Rootmaster Series at this year’s NAMM Show. The lineup includes two bass heads, five speaker cabinets, and three combo amplifiers offered at an affordable price.
The Rootmaster amplifiers and combos come in either 220 or 420 watts with the combos offering 1×15″, 2×10″, and 1×12″ speaker configurations. Each of the amps is fitted with Ashdown’s Variable Overdrive and Variable Compression circuits, both of which can be switched in or out of the signal path. Other features include a 5-band EQ, the company’s Sub-Harmonic generator, and a global Shape switch that re-voices the amplifier.
A Line Mix knob allows you to mix in external audio sources alongside your bass signal. The rear panel has a 1/8″ aux input, a SpeakOn combination connector, a DI output, an effects loops, and a footswitch jack for accessing the Sub Harmonic generator and Drive effects.
The cabinets in the line range in power handling from 250 watts to 450 watts. The lineup includes 1×15″, 2×10″, 2×12″, and 4×10″ configurations that all include a tweeter. Each of the cabinets is rated at 8 ohms with the exception of the 414T, which is rated at 4 ohms. The 4×10’s are also set apart by their side handles.
Ashdown’s Rootmaster Series products are available now with street prices ranging from $299 to $649.
