Steve Lawson and Jon Thorne Release “Diversion”

Steve Lawson and Jon Thorne: DiversionTwo basses are better than one, but an even better treat is when an electric bassist teams up with a double bassist for a duo album. Luckily for us, Steve Lawson and Jon Thorne have done just that.

Diversion is a album comprised of two long duo pieces that the bassists performed live at the London Bass Guitar Show back in March. “Jon, as bassist with Lamb, has been a bass hero of mine for many many years, and his own album, Watching The Well, written for Danny Thompson, is outstanding,” Lawson shares. “I’m SO happy with this music, and am looking forward to playing shows with Jon.”

The duo’s improvised interplay creates intriguing and lush textures throughout the 21-minute excursion. Diversion’s title track has a beautiful ambient vibe with Lawson laying down pads as Thorne plays around the harmonic landscape and vice versa. “A Place of Beauty” has Lawson opening up a bit more.
