Previously Unreleased Live Set by Charlie Haden and Jim Hall Available on New Record

Charlie Haden - Jim HallWe lost legendary jazz double bassist Charlie Haden this summer, but he lives on through his music – that includes music that few people have had a chance to hear, until now.

The Impulse! label has issued a previously unreleased performance of Haden and jazz guitarist Jim Hall (Hall died in December 2013, just a little more than 6 months before Haden), playing as a duo at the 1990 Montreal International Jazz Festival. Simply titled Charlie Haden – Jim Hall, the record has drawn accolades from fellow jazz musician Pat Metheny.

“What a treat it is to hear two of my heroes and my two favorite personal duet partners playing in a setting like this! This is a recording for the ages,” Metheny says.

While Haden was more avant-garde and Hall had a traditional style, each player had distinguished himself as a master of playing in duos before the pair stepped onstage for the 1990 concert. The men were also longtime associates who knew one another for 50 years, says pianist Ethan Iverson in the record’s liner notes.

Charlie Haden — Jim Hall is available on CD and for digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
