It looks like at least one Grammy category is a bass-ic affair this year.
Superstar session bassist/sideman Nathan East has received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for Nathan East, his self-titled solo album debut.
East has worked with a wide variety of artists in his long career, from Eric Clapton to Stevie Wonder to Michael McDonald. His history, as well as insight into the recording of his Grammy-nominated album, is provided in the new documentary, for the record, now available on Hulu.
The other nominees in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album Category include the bass-heavy Bass & Mandolin from Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer; Wild Heart, Mindi Abair; Slam Dunk, Gerald Albright (which also features saxophonist Albright on bass); and Jazz Funk Soul by Jeff Lorber, Chuck Loeb and Everette Harp.
The 57th Grammys will air at 8 p.m. on Feb. 8 on CBS.
