Monster Truck: Sweet Mountain River & Old Train, Live

I’m not sure how I got onto this band, but I’m glad I did. Monster Truck is a gritty rock band informed by classic ’70s metal riffage. While the group is based out of Ontario, there’s a certain southern rock groove to it, too.

The band is fronted by bassist Jon Harvey, who unleashes some solid grooves while handling lead vocal duties. Here’s a clip of the band performing “Sweet Mountain River” and “Old Train” live for Canadian radio station 102.1 The Edge.

Good ole southern(ish) rock. Old Train reminds me a bit of Pride & Glory with Lomenzo on bass. That’s a compliment by the way. I dig!

What model is that Ibanez bass he’s playing? Looks like a Musicman sabre copy, and I’ve never seen another Ibby like it. Is it a ‘lawsuit’ bass?

  3. Sonofabitch! That makes me want to kick back in the bed of a pickup with a Lone Star Beer and an 8 track boom box.

  4. Lots of doubling,( and Hammond tripling) is like Black Sabbath meets the Allman Brothers ! I Dig It !

  5. Nice song and I like that bass with heart shaped tuning keys, I’ve never seen that before.
This music reminds me of another band but I cant quite place it , maybe something between Black Sabbath and Lynyrd Skynyrd .
