Last Album Leads to New EP for Decemberists

The Decemberists: florasongsThe Decemberists have released the five songs that didn’t make it onto its January album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World as the EP, florasongs.

Featuring Nate Query (also Black Prairie) on bass, the album’s title references the Portland studio belonging to Tucker Martine, who co-produced What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World with the band.

Arguing that only a very few albums are great enough to include 19 tracks, the band opted for 14 for the January album. However, five is a great number for an EP.

Check out the florasongs track “Why Would I Now?” to see how you feel about what was left for the EP:

The florasongs EP is available on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).

florasongs Track List:

  1. Why Would I Now?

  3. Fits & Starts
  4. The Harrowed and the Haunted

  1. I work on Nate’s electric basses here in Portland and can tell you that he is a truly consummate for the song player on upright and electric but is also one of the nicest people I have ever worked with as a tech. Lovely technique and basses on top of that.
