Jethro Tull’s “Too Old to Rock ’n’ Roll: Too Young to Die!” Expanded for Box Set
Jethro Tull’s 1976 album Too Old to Rock ’n’ Roll: Too Young to Die! has acquired some new life in a 40th anniversary box set.
The 2 CD/2 DVD set, featuring the bass work of the late John Glascock (Carmen) includes the original; a version of the album re-recorded for a 1976 television special; the TV film; alternate versions of album tracks and a variety of associated recordings. An 80-page booklet, with loads of info about the record, and track-by-track annotation by bandleader Ian Anderson is included. Glascock, who also sang backing vocals for the band, died in 1979 at the age of 28 from a heart valve defect.
Anderson notes the set brings back memories. “Unfortunately, some memories have not returned to their rightful owner as I have little recollection of even recording the additional archive tracks. But there they are in glorious analogue multi-track form so it must have really happened. Enjoy and suck in the heady air of the seventies and promise not to laugh at the silly cozies and the hair-sprayed mane.”

The box set is available on CD and a pared-down version of the set is available for download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
