Megadeth Releases “Dystopia”

Megadeth: DystopiaMegadeth, one of the “big four” bands of thrash metal (along with Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer) has released its 15th studio album, Dystopia.

The album started coming together in an unusual way, as the band was between guitarists and drummers. “It was an interesting process. I don’t know of any other record that started with recording the bass to a click track,” bassist and band co-founder David Ellefson told Premier Guitar.

Ellefson also noted, in the same interview, how he and band co-founder Dave Mustaine were able to begin composing before taking on new band members to flesh out the album. “A lot of it speaks to the fact that me and Dave intuitively know how each other plays and know how a Megadeth record should sound, and how the bass should go—the tone, the parts, the style, the picking and notation. Out of 15 Megadeth studio albums, I’ve done 12,” Ellefson said.

Megadeth’s Dystopia lineup includes guitarist Kiko Loureiro (formerly of Angra) and Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler.
