Bass of the Week: Wahlbrink Hades 4-String Salmo Salar

Germany’s Wahlbrink Basses created the Hades as a workhorse bass that is “less fancy” than their Art-Line, but even so the model is a beauty. Here we’re checking out a four-string Hades dubbed the Salmo Salar, or Atlantic Salmon. The clean white finish is accented by a pickguard covered with genuine salmon leather, which Wahlbrink describes as “tough, pleasant to the touch, and always asked about.”

It’s built with the classic combination of an alder body and maple neck with an ebony fingerboard. More specifically, the neck is a master grade piece of Quilted Canadian Hard Maple that was only oiled for a jaw-dropping look and nice feel. The pickups are a pair of Häussel Bassbars matched to a Noll TCM 2 preamp. Its controls are kept simple with volume, balance, treble/bass, and a passive switch. Other features include Schaller BM Light tuners and ETS hardware.
