The Killers Bassist Mark Stoermer Halts Touring

Mark Stoermer

The Killers have announced that Mark Stoermer will be taking a break from touring with the band to work on his own projects. The bassist, who has been part of the lineup since 2002, will still be a part of the band and involved in recording the group’s new album.

“Mark has decided to take a break from The Killers touring,” the band wrote in a statement. “But don’t be surprised if you see him on stage from time to time. Everyone supports Mark’s decision to take a break to pursue other educational goals and releasing a solo album.”

Stoermer released a solo album entitled Another Life in 2011. A replacement has not been named, although it’s rumored Jake Blanton will fill his shoes on the road. Blanton sat in for Stoermer during a tour in 2013 and is expected to return.

The Killers are gearing up for the followup to 2012’s Battle Born, but no further details have been released.

Funny. I was just thinking the other day of really good bassists in the pop industry… and Mark was the only bassist I could think of. Not that there aren’t others; but Mark’s basslines with The Killers really stood out. Look forward to hearing some of his music.
