Bass of the Week: AC Guitars Über ART Recurve 4
This week we’re checking out the AC Guitars Über ART Recurve 4. Built in Scotland by luthier Alan Cringean, the bass features a proprietary finishing process called Acrylic Resin Treated (ART).
“The process makes use of acrylic monomers and dyes in order to infuse the wood,” he writes. “This takes place in a vacuum oven and produces woods which have a totally unique look to them. The process its self is entirely random in where the stain takes and how much it takes so every board will be different.”
This particular bass uses the special finish on its maple burl top and fingerboard to create an engrossing visual appeal. Its body core is white limba matched with a five-piece wenge and maple neck. Cringean upped the fret marker game with some Luminlay side dots for good measure.
The bass’s electronics include a pair of ACG MC4 multi-coil pickups and the ACG DFM 4K preamp. Besides a locking Neutrik jack for 1/4-inch cables, it also has a Neutrik XLR transformer with an isolated and balanced output.
