Michael Franti & Spearhead Releases “Soulrocker”

Michael Franti & Spearhead: SoulrockerMichael Franti & Spearhead has released its ninth studio album, Soulrocker.

The band is most well known for the 2009 hit “Say Hey (I Love You),” co-written by bassist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Carl Young, who has been an integral member of the band since its beginning in 1994.

This time out, Franti produced in collaboration with two Jamaican producers, and added the group’s take on electronic music to its existing fusion of hip-hop, rock, folk, and reggae. “I make music for one reason; I care about people and I care about the planet we live in,” Franti said. “Right now the world needs music that speaks out against hate and violence, that speaks up in support of the planet, in support of justice for all of humanity — and also makes you dance!”
