Bass of the Week: R. Hyde Guitars Long Scale Nuvo
After releasing the prototype last year, Ryan Hyde of R. Hyde Guitars has created a new full-sized version of the Nuvo. The sleek and seductive revamp is our bass of the week.
Hyde built the new Nuvo with a full 34-inch scale and added a few improvements to the design. “This new version features a fully adjustable bridge,” the luthier explains. “The body has been scaled up in size and thickness and incorporates a unique heel design. The input jack has also been revised and a second pickup has been added which is housed in a finger ramp.”
For electronics, Hyde took the passive route with a Nordstrand 51P pickup in the neck and a Big Split for the bridge. It’s control configuration is set up for independent volume knobs and a master tone. Other features include Hipshot tuners, wraparound 2-ply binding, and a wide choice of woods for construction.
Hyde is offering the bass now as part of his Kickstarter campaign. Each bass is hand crafted by the luthier in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
