Ron Carter on Trombonist Turre’s Latest

Steve Turre: Colors for the MastersLegendary jazz double bassist Ron Carter remains busy as he approaches 80, playing on trombonist Steve Turre’s latest, Colors for the Masters.

The album has already netted a glowing review at All About Jazz, which called it one of Turre’s “best releases in years.” It also acknowledges the iconic bassist, noting “if you can’t pick out a Ron Carter bass line in a measure or two you are just not listening hard enough.” Turre is also known for introducing the playing of conch shells to jazz.

Colors for the Masters not only features Turre’s own compositions, but also covers of work by Thelonious Monk and Wayne Shorter.
