Robert Trujillo Says New Metallica Sounds Crushing

Metallica

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo has shared a little more insight into the band’s upcoming album Hardwired… to Self Destruct, due November 18th. The first single, entitled “Hardwired”, was released to fans and Trujillo says its a good indicator of what’s to come.

“‘Hardwired’ is the perfect statement to lead into this body of music. I think this album sounds crushing,” he told the Minneapolis City Pages. “Sound-wise, it’s got a lot of firepower. I’m excited about the songs, but I’m also excited about the sound quality of the record. Greg Fidelman did a great job with the production.”

Check out the official music video for “Hardwired”:

On the rest of the music, Trujillo continued that “it’s really fun music, but it’s also challenging. It can be a bit complex, but there’s strong melodies. I feel we’ve matured in the right way as a band. We’ve had a lot of creative challenges over the years and as we’ve gotten older, we’ve been going for it, you know?”

Hardwired… to Self Destruct is available for preorder now through the Metallica website.

The rhythm section Seems stronger than ever, but… The vocals Are.. Bad? It’s like he’s forgotten how to sing and is just shouting. Not to mention that guitar solo? Not a fan. It was so messy.

I’m digging on it. Hope this is a good fit for the rest of the album. I am so glad to have my childhood favorite band back. I just wish the loads and st anger never happened. If I had to nit pic I would say this song could’ve used more of a guitar solo. Drums are as good as you could hope for. Rythem, Bass and vocals are dead on.

Don’t like the new sound at all !!!

Over rated bass player in an over rated band; no thanks!

Bro, you can’t be serious… you must not be familiar with Rob’s work. Infectious Grooves, Suicidal Tendencies, Jerry Cantrell, Ozzy, you can’t deny the man is a rock solid bassist… and that’s at the least!

While I am normally reluctant to compare on bassist to another Robert Trujillo has never impressed me. He does not come to close to some of the cats that I remember from when I was kid that are sadly not even remember these days. Guys like Boz Burrell and Gary Thain for example, or even Greg Lake. I stand by my statement, over rated bass player in an over rated band.

Well ok… I disagree that he’s overrated; but respect your opinion none the less.

No worries my Friend, things would be rather boring if we agreed on everything no? Check out Gary Thain on Uriah Heep Live (1973 if I recall), a wonderful bassist by any measure.

This doesn’t sound like a new sound to me as much as it sounds like they’re revisiting their original sound. This tune reminds me a bit of Whiplash, with a bit of the St. Anger lp mixed together. Rob’s the man!
