Ida Nielsen and Jan-Olof Strandberg Team Up for Funk Project

Ida Nielsen & Strandberg Funk Unit

Jan-Olof Strandberg has a great tradition of collaborating with fellow bassists, including Paul Jackson, Dominque DiPiazza, Michael Manring, and more. Now he’s teaming up with funk powerhouse Ida Nielsen for a new project.

“The group will be in the studio to record new material and performing a few live shows in Finland between March 7th and 12th!” Strandberg writes. “The music will be FUNKY with some “spicy” progressive elements included. WARNING: These concerts include bass solos!”

Nielsen spent years as Prince’s bass player and as a member of 3rdEyeGirl. She released her own solo album, Turnitup, in August.

“I am looking very much forward to work with Jan-Olof. I have known him several years but this will be the first time we will actually play together and I am super excited about that!” Nielsen shared. “He is an incredibly amazing bass player who has so many interesting ideas both for bass playing and for arrangement. I think it will be awesome and of course super funky. Funk and fire.”

The rest of the band will be filled out by keyboardist Jukka Gustavson, guitarist Sami Virtanen, saxophonist William Suvanne, drummer Jartsa Karvonen, DJ Perttu Siren, and beatboxer Felix Zenger. Ida Nielsen & Strandberg Funk Unit’s performances in March will also include a workshop in Helsinki.
