Bass of the Week: Alpher Instruments Mako Elite Thinline 5-String
This week we’re checking out another gorgeous bass from Alpher Instruments. This Mako Elite Thinline 5-String immediately caught my attention on Facebook for its incredible purple “crazy burl” top and slick shape.
The 34-inch scale bass is built with a book matched, flamed maple body matched to an Indian rosewood neck and African blackwood fingerboard. For electronics, Alpher fitted it with a pair of Nordstrand dual coil pickups with a 2-band preamp as well as two Dingwall four-way rotary coil selector switches.
“The bass was built for our good friend and bass dealer Pierre from Bass Freaks SPRL in Brussels,” Alpher’s Chris Dobson tells us. “He likes to let us do our own thing and gives us full creative freedom (which I love). It has a very unique tone which is apparently going down very well with customers and in session / live situations.”
