Bass of the Week: Crom Custom Shop Romantic Warrior

Crom Custom Shop Romantic Warrior Bass Body Angle

Matias Crom sent us photos of his Romantic Warrior model, and I dropped everything I was doing. The 34-year-old, Italian-Argentinian luthier has been making baroque instruments like lutes and viols for the past 10 years, but he started making basses when he was 18 after hearing Primus. His unique influences are melded together in the bass, which features a beautifully carved body.

“[It is] a very simple, light and easy to play bass with killer looks from my baroque trade,” Crom states. “I would say this bass is a mix between Carl Thompson looks and Lemmy’s Rickenbacker.”

Each bass is fitted with two hand-wound pickups with Alnico V rods. They’re built with a neck-through design featuring a flamed maple neck, ebony fingerboard, and either a flamed maple or walnut body. All hardware is custom made just for the bass including the strap locks, bridge saddle, and string bushings.
