David Crosby Features The Bass on “Sky Trails”

David Crosby: Sky TrailsThe legendary David Crosby is continuing a prolific period in his solo career with the release of Sky Trails. Featuring the bass talents of Snarky Puppy’s Michael League, Mai Agan, and Andrew Ford, the album leans towards more jazz vocabulary and has some bass highlights.

Among the original songs is a fantastic take on Joni Mitchell’s “Amelia,” which originally featured bass hero Jaco Pastorius. “Not only does Crosby deliver a luminescent, piano-based cover of Hejira’s ‘Amelia,’ the arrangements of songs like ‘Before Tomorrow Falls on Love’ and ‘Here It’s Almost Sunset’ bear fretless lines from Estonian bass phenom Mai Agan that seem to conjure up the ghost of Jaco, especially when countered by sax man Steve Tavaglione,” Rolling Stone states.

Check out Crosby talking about Agan’s contribution to the song “Here It’s Almost Sunset”:

Sky Trails is available now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
