Groove – Episode #37: Cody Wright

Cody Wright

Candidly, there are few bass players who sound as original as Cody Wright. In fact, when I first heard him play several years back, I was immediately transported back in time. It was the exact same audio sensation that came over me when I first heard Jaco Pastorius and Billy Sheehan play. It was not just great (and fast) bass playing, but a sound that was truly different and original.

What stunned me the most about Cody was that he was playing with a pick. Seeing him groove as he does, is a sight to behold. While he dubs himself as a multi-instrumentalist, he really is one of the most jaw-dropping bass players working today.

Cody has toured with the likes of Eric Gales, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, Everyone Orchestra, Jazz is Phish and James Brown Dance Party. He has also performed and recorded with everyone from Victor Wooten to Felix Pastorius.

As big of a bass player as Cody is, he is still young, new on the scene, and there’s a bright future ahead for this beast of a bass player.
