Mike Jones and Penn Jillette Release “The Show Before The Show”
You probably recognize Penn Jillette as one half of the comedy and magic duo Penn and Teller. What you may not know is that Jillette is an avid jazz bassist. You can hear his work on the new album The Show Before The Show alongside pianist Mike Jones.
“For the past 16 years those who have gone to see the Penn & Teller show at the Rio in Las Vegas have been entertained before the show by the Mike Jones Duo,” the liner notes read. “Jones is joined by a disguised hip looking bassist in a hat who is actually the taller half of the act they all came to see, Penn Jillette. The Show Before the Show was recorded live at the Penn & Teller Theater capturing the musical magic before the prestidigitation begins.”
The duo tackles standards from the American Songbook including “Have You Met Miss Jones” and “On The Sunny Side of the Street” as well as an original by Jones. Hear the chemistry on “But Not For Me”:
