In Memoriam: Caleb Scofield

Caleb Scofield

Bassist and vocalist Caleb Scofield has passed away after a car accident in New Hampshire. He was 39 years old. Scofield played bass and sang for the metal bands Cave In, Old Man Gloom, and Zozobra.

Scofield joined Cave in 20 years ago in 1998 – just three years after the band had formed – and was featured on all five of the band’s albums. He then joined Old Man Gloom, a metal supergroup formed by Aaron Turner of Isis and Santos Montano. The bassist formed Zozobra in 2006, which allowed him to write his own songs. Zozobra released three albums, the final being 2013’s Savage Masters.

A YouCaring crowd-funding campaign has been set up to support the family. “We’d like to thank everyone for the kind words coming in. We will have countless words to say, and endless stories to tell in the future, but today we are just trying to keep it together,” Old Man Gloom wrote on Facebook. “All I ask is that if Caleb has ever brought you a moment of joy, please follow this link and support his family.”
