Allman Brothers Release Cream of the Crop 2003
The Allman Brothers have released a batch of songs from 2003 called Peach Picks: Cream Of The Crop 2003. Dedicated to the memory of Gregg Allman, the collection is culled from six shows in July and August of that year and includes 36 tracks with no repeated songs.
The band that year was riding high off a new album and had a killer lineup featuring founding members Gregg Allman, Jaimoe and Butch Trucks. They were joined by Warren Haynes, Marc Quinones, Derek Trucks, and Oteil Burbridge. It is noted to be the group’s longest running lineup as well as most consistent in their live shows.
“That was an important time in the growth of that incarnation of the ABB,” Haynes writes. “We had just released Hittin’ The Note and everybody was psyched to be playing a lot of new material from an album we all were very proud of and there was new life being breathed into a lot of the older songs.”
Hear Burbridge lay down the low end on the classic Allman Brothers song “Whipping Post”:
