Chic closed the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival with a bang. Among the tunes the group performed was their big hit “Good Times”. Bassist Jerry Barnes laid down the funky and iconic bass line and got the crowd going during the bass-drums-vocal break. Old school.

Dangerous Guitars invited three top musicians into the studio to play together for the very first time. Those musicians included bassist Billy Sheehan, guitarist Clint Strong and drummer Mike Gage. The folks at Dangerous Guitars said they brought together these musicians and asked them to “deliver us something ‘off the top of their heads.‘ Unscripted… unrehearsed… and uncanny.” Pretty cool!

Miki Santamaria is back with a new solo bass arrangement – and his first with his new Fodera Yin Yang Standard. The tune is John Legend’s “All of Me”. The arrangement and performance, as always, is top notch. Enjoy!

November 27th is Jimi Hendrix’s birthday. Bassist Viaceslav Svedov decided to share his “small tribute to a big legend” on that day, which would have been Hendrix’s 72nd birthday. The tribute is a solo bass version of Hendrix’s Woodstock version of “Villanova Junction”, which Viaceslav does in his terrific style.

We love the musical diversity of No Treble readers! Bassist Cahit Kutrafali shared this video, along with this note: “I started to compose a new tune called ‘Lotus Flower’ for electric bass and strings. This is the opening (part I) with electric bass, cello and cajon… The following parts will include the whole string quartet.” Simply incredible.
