Evan Marien with Nigel Hitchcock and Sebastiaan Cornelissen: Lewis

Bassist Evan Marien shared his latest video with us, featuring saxophonist Nigel Hitchcock and drummer/guitarist Sebastiaan Cornelissen performing Cornelissen’s tune “Lewis”. While this video includes some nifty bass work by Marien (and a sweet solo), it also includes one of the smallest drum kits I’ve ever seen!

So much new bass gear! Last week, No Treble readers hit the gear coverage hard, especially the new basses from Fender, Warwick, Hofner and Epiphone. MarloweDK: Funky Fusion Jam

Usually when we see a video with Thomas “MarloweDK” Risell, he’s teaching us something. Today, we’re sharing a video where MarloweDK is letting loose, laying it down and getting funky. He said this is his “rehearsal” fusion band, playing a tune based on John Scofield’s “Chank”. I suppose that MarloweDK is teaching us something, even when he’s not. (And if...

She’s Leaving Home: Beatles / Funk Brothers Mashup

While I was working on the videos for our Isolated Bass Week, I stumbled upon this video mashup. Songwriter/producer Luciano Albo took two legendary tunes: the Beatles’ “She’s Leaving Home” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”, and mixed them together. The Motown classic of course features James Jamerson on bass, and the Beatles’ tune features Paul McCartney on vocals. Pretty...

Happy Birthday, No Treble!

Three years ago today, we officially launched this online magazine for bassists we call No Treble. Over these three years, we’ve made many friends: almost 66,000 on Facebook, over 4,500 on Twitter, not to mention the countless bassists we’ve met at NAMM, at concerts and other places). This, without a doubt, is the best part for us here at No...
