After previewing it at the Winter NAMM Show earlier this year, Ernie Ball Music Man is now shipping the Short-Scale StingRay bass. It features the company’s flagship bass model in a 30-inch scale.

Jackson has scaled things down about with their latest Concert bass – literally. The JS Series Concert Bass Minion JS1XM has a scale of 28.6 inches, which is tiny compared to the standard scale of 34 inches.

BASS OF THE WEEK: Eastwood Guitars has a knack for recreating vintage basses in a modern format while retaining all their glorious mojo. That’s evident in their take on the Airline Pocket Bass, which was introduced two years ago.

This week we’re checking out the Höfner 500/5 President Bass from their affordable Contemporary series. Modeled on the original hollow-body basses from the ’50s and ’60s, the bass has a 30-inch scale.

Vox was on-hand at the 2019 Summer NAMM Show to launch two new basses: The Starstream 1H Artist and the Starstream 2S Artist. Both are short-scale active basses based on the company’s Starstream guitar design.

This week we’re taking a look at a short scale bass from Kinal Guitars called the Kompact 4. Luthier Michael Kinal builds the scaled-down hollow body with a variety of woods.

Eastwood Guitars is now shipping the Newport Bass, which is a tribute to a vintage bass from the ’60s. The EPI bass guitar, or EB-S, was manufactured between 1961 and 1969; and this example comes from the middle year, 1965.

This week we’re taking a look at the Thirty, a short scale bass from Marceau Guitars. Sporting a 30-inch scale and flexible options, the bass offers plenty of versatility.

Traveler Guitars has expanded their line of portable hollow-body instruments with the CL-3BE Acoustic Bass. The four-string is 3/4 the size of a standard instrument and has a 23.35-inch scale length.

The Eastwood Custom Shop has collaborated with designer John Backlund once again to create the Backlund 100 Bass. Modeled after the retro-futuristic guitar, the bass is built with an offset and angular mahogany body matched to a mahogany neck.
